Candidates have begun campaigning for the Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) election. They are going to various faculties on campus, talking to general students, asking for votes, and inquiring about their needs.
The Election Commission published the draft ballot numbers on Thursday morning. After that, the candidates started their campaigns.
Candidates from the panel nominated by Chhatra Dal were seen campaigning in several groups.
Sazzad Hossain Hridoy, the candidate for Vice President (VP) from the Chhatra Dal-supported panel, said, “Today, we campaigned among students by dividing into several groups. We campaigned at the Arts building, Social Sciences building, Shaheed Minar, the station, and other places.”
He added, “We have received positive responses from the students; they are very enthusiastic. The students know who stood by them in times of crisis and during movements in the past. We hope that if the election is fair and acceptable, Chhatra Dal will win by a huge margin.”
Saeed Bin Habib, the candidate for General Secretary (GS) from the Shampritir Shikkharthi Jote panel supported by Chhatra Shibir, said, “Today, we are campaigning among the students, and they are responding even more than we expected. We are getting positive feedback from them. We are listening to their problems and their comments. The students’ problems will be our manifesto.”
Candidates from the Shotontro Shikkharthi Shommilon panel campaigned at the Faculty of Business Administration and the Faculty of Social Sciences. VP candidate Mahfuzur Rahman said, “We are getting a response from the students. The students are eager to learn about us.”
The ‘Binirman Shikkharthi Oikya’ panel campaigned at the Institute of Marine Sciences and the Arts Faculty shed. VP candidate Abir Bin Jabed said, “We are receiving good responses from the students. Because we have been vocal about Cucsu for a long time; we are familiar to the students. That’s why we have found them very interested.”
The joint panel Protest Council of Bangladesh Chhatra Union and Socialist Students’ Front campaigned at the Faculty of Business Administration. The panel’s candidate for General Secretary (GS), Ifaz Uddin Ahmed, told Times of Bangladesh, “The students are listening to us attentively; that’s what I like. They are very interested in Cucsu.”
Additionally, many independent candidates also campaigned.
The Chittagong University Central Students’ Union (Cucsu) election will be held on 15 October.
