One more dengue-related death and 632 new hospitalisations were reported across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
This brings the total death toll from dengue this year to 188, with 44,743 patients admitted to hospitals since January.
The deceased was a 35-year-old man from Meherpur, undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Of the new patients, 207 were admitted in Dhaka city, while Barisal reported 157, followed by Dhaka division outside the capital (101), Chattogram (78), Rajshahi (56), Rangpur (36), and Khulna (33).
September has seen the highest monthly hospitalisations, now standing at 12,997, surpassing July’s 10,684. The outbreak has steadily worsened throughout the year, with monthly admissions rising from just 336 in March to nearly 13,000 in September.
September also recorded the highest fatalities, with 66 deaths, followed by 41 in July and 39 in August.
Currently, 2,062 dengue patients remain hospitalised – 760 in Dhaka and 1,300 in other regions.
The DGHS has tracked dengue cases since 2000. The worst outbreak occurred in 2023, with 321,179 hospitalisations and 1,705 deaths, the highest ever recorded in the country.
Health authorities continue to urge the public to remain cautious and take preventive measures, especially as the peak season for mosquito-borne infections persists.
