Police on Thursday arrested the controversial content creator Ashraful Alam, widely known as Hero Alam, in connection with a case involving allegations of rape under the pretext of marriage and physical assault.
Following the completion of legal formalities, he has been sent to Bogura jail.
Law enforcement officials apprehended Alam at approximately noon from the Majhira Bondor area on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Shajahanpur. Acting on a tip off, members of the law enforcement followed his vehicle and stopped it after a brief chase to make the arrest.
The arrest follows a case filed by Sadia Rahman Mithila. According to the allegations in the case, Alam reportedly deceived Mithila with the promise of making her an actress and luring her with a marriage proposal.
The plaintiff accused him of rape, physical torture, and forcing her to undergo an abortion.
On 10 February, Judge Anwarul Haque of the Bogura Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-1 issued an arrest warrant against Alam. The court passed the order after receiving an investigation report from the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).
The arrest was executed one week after the warrant was issued.
While Alam has denied the allegations, Mithila filed the case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act on 21 April 2025.
Confirming the matter, Mostafa Manjur, Additional Superintendent of Police in Bogura, stated that the arrestee has been produced before the court. He added that the court would determine the next course of legal action in the case.
