A special law and order committee meeting in the border upazila of Teknaf has declared a “zero tolerance” policy against kidnapping, drugs, human trafficking, border crimes, illegal arms, and online gambling.
For the first time, top officials from all major law enforcement agencies in the district and upazila gathered to decide on coordinated and strict operations, including combing operations in the hills and intensified border surveillance.
The meeting was held on Saturday at 11am at the Teknaf Upazila Parishad conference room, organised by the upazila administration. Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate Md Abdul Mannan presided over the session.
Shahjahan Chowdhury, lawmaker for the Cox’s Bazar-4 (Ukhia-Teknaf) constituency and president of the District BNP, attended as the chief guest.
The meeting reviewed the overall law and order situation in Teknaf, focusing on effective measures to prevent kidnapping, drugs, and human trafficking. Detailed discussions were held on recovering illegal arms, strengthening border monitoring, and launching a coordinated initiative to shut down online gambling.
Sources from the meeting confirmed that instructions were issued for all forces to work in a coordinated manner to suppress crimes in the border region. Particular emphasis was placed on increasing intelligence activities, conducting rapid raids, and taking legal action against perpetrators to ensure public safety.
During the session, Mannan said, “No concessions will be made in improving the law and order situation in Teknaf.
“All forces will take coordinated and strict measures to suppress kidnapping, drugs, human trafficking, illegal weapons, and border crimes. Ensuring the safety of the general public is the administration’s highest priority.”
Lawmaker Chowdhury said, “There is no place for criminals in Teknaf. Law enforcement agencies must work with maximum severity to restore peace and security for the people. Every cooperation will be provided to make the border free from drugs and crime.”
Attending officials noted that coordinated operations across all agencies would be more effective than individual efforts, promising that continuous raids against kidnapping, drug, and trafficking syndicates would be maintained.
Saturday’s meeting was attended by representatives from the BGB, District Administration, Police, RAB, Coast Guard, APBn, Forest Department, and the Department of Narcotics Control, as well as public representatives, political leaders, and officials from relevant government agencies.
Moderated by Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) SM Onik Chowdhury, the meeting featured several special guests, including Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed, BGB Ramu sector commander; ANM Sajedur Rahman, superintendent of police, Cox’s Bazar; Lt Col Niyanul Halim Khan, captain of RAB-15; Somel Mondal, deputy director of the Cox’s Bazar Narcotics Control Department; and Panna Akter, Ukhia UNO, alongside other high-ranking officials from various agencies.
