Panic has again gripped residents along the Teknaf border in Cox’s Bazar as explosions from inside Myanmar shook the frontier Wednesday night.
The unrest began after 9pm, with locals reporting continuous blasts and the sound of fighter jets. Abdul Mannan, acting chairman of Sabrang union, said the intensity was felt most in Shah Porir Dwip and nearby areas.
Dil Mohammad Dilu of Jaliapara village described seeing flashes of fire across the Naf River. He said, “Several massive explosions were clearly audible from Teknaf. We could see fire flickering on the other side, which would disappear after a short while.”
Local sources claimed Myanmar’s Air Force dropped at least 27 bombs targeting Arakan Army positions until 10:20pm, though this has not been independently verified. Many residents attempted to leave their homes, but the administration urged calm.
Teknaf Upazila Nirbahi Officer SM Aneek Chowdhury confirmed reports of airstrikes, adding that Border Guard Bangladesh and Coast Guard members are on high alert. “The border is 100 per cent secure,” he said.
This escalation follows similar unrest in December 2025, when cross‑border explosions also caused alarm among frontier communities.
