Police have recovered the hanging body of a 26-year-old Pakistani national from a rented flat in South Banasree under Khilgaon in the capital.
The deceased was identified as Muhammad Shahbaz, a businessman from the Jamalpur police station area of Multan district in Pakistan. His father’s name is Nazir Ahmed.
The body was sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for an autopsy on Tuesday morning.
Khilgaon Police Station Sub-Inspector Syed Zubayer said Shahbaz had been living on the ground floor of House 38 on Road 9/5 in Block F of South Banasree.
He had married a Bangladeshi woman from an ethnic minority community, and the couple had been living together at the rented flat.
However, his wife had recently left him and married another man, the police officer said.
Shahbaz had travelled to Satkhira two days earlier in an attempt to bring his wife back but was unsuccessful.
Police suspect that he died by suicide amid family-related difficulties.
According to the sub-inspector, Shahbaz apparently locked himself inside his room on Monday night.
After receiving information about the incident, police broke open the door at around 3am and found his body hanging from a ceiling fan, with a bedsheet tied around his neck.
The officer said police were investigating the circumstances surrounding the death and that the exact cause would be determined after the autopsy.
