Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Saturday directed officials to speed up the process of reopening loss-making and closed state-owned factories through both local and foreign investment.
He gave the instruction at a meeting held at the prime minister’s office to review the progress of the initiative, according to Deputy Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Hasan Shiplu.
The meeting was informed that several private companies have expressed interest in investing in the dormant factories.
Officials said the proposals submitted by interested firms to establish different industrial units will now undergo feasibility studies.
The prime minister stressed that the entire process must be completed in a transparent manner, without irregularities.
He also instructed the authorities to avoid unnecessary delays and ensure that the process is completed as quickly as possible.
Commerce, Industries, Jute and Textiles Minister Khandaker Abdul Muktadir, State Minister for Jute and Textiles Shariful Alam, Prime Minister’s Adviser on Finance and Planning Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir, Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Executive Chairman Ashik Chowdhury, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister ABM Abdus Sattar, secretaries of relevant ministries, and senior officials from organisations under the Ministry of Industries attended the meeting, which was chaired by the Prime Minister.
