Coast Guard seized around 4,000 litres of illegal fuel oil during a drive in Bhola’s Daulatkhan upazila on Monday night.
The operation took place in the Meghna River near the Chokighat area, officials said.
Lt Commander Sabbir Alam Suzan, media officer of Bangladesh Coast Guard South Zone, confirmed the development.
Acting on a tip-off, a Coast Guard team carried out the drive in the river and searched a trawler, recovering the fuel oil.
Sensing the presence of law enforcers, those on board fled the scene, leaving no arrests.
Later, a mobile court led by Daulatkhan Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Shaon Majumder Suman sold the seized fuel at market price. The proceeds were deposited into the government treasury.
