BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman has said that all closed factories in the country will be reopened in phases as part of efforts to restore employment and revive industrial production.”
He made the remarks while addressing a May Day rally organised by the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal, the labour wing of the BNP, at Nayapaltan in the capital on Friday.
Tarique Rahman said directives have already been issued to relevant stakeholders to identify ways of quickly restarting closed industries so that unemployed workers can return to work.
He described the initiative as part of a broader plan to create a “people-oriented government.”
He also said the party is holding discussions with foreign investors to encourage investment in Bangladesh’s industrial sector, which he said would further expand job opportunities.
The rally was presided over by Sramik Dal President Anwar Hossain and addressed by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, members of the party’s standing committee, and labour leaders.
According to Sramik Dal leaders, workers from several nearby industrial districts including Gazipur, Narayanganj, Narsingdi, Munshiganj and Manikganj participated in the programme.
Large numbers of party activists joined the rally, many wearing red caps and T-shirts, carrying banners and beating drums, creating a festive atmosphere at Nayapaltan.
Party sources said this is the BNP’s first major political programme in the capital after forming government following what it described as a landslide victory in the 13th national parliamentary election.
