Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has joined the labour rally organised by the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal at the capital’s Nayapaltan to mark the occasion of May Day.
Attending as the chief guest, Tarique is expected to outline the government’s various plans for the welfare of the working class during his address.
The prime minister arrived at the venue and took his seat on the rally stage shortly after 4:30pm on Friday. His arrival was met with an outpouring of enthusiasm from the gathered party leaders and activists.
The formal proceedings of the rally commenced at 2:30pm with a recitation from the Holy Quran. This event represents the first rally in the capital held under the party’s initiative since the formation of the current government.
To maintain order and ensure security, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel have been deployed throughout the Nayapaltan area.
The rally is being presided over by Anwar Hossain, president of the Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal. Other national leaders are also scheduled to speak, including Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the Secretary General of the BNP and Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives.
Long before the official start of the programme, a massive wave of activists and leaders converged in front of the BNP’s central office. Since the morning, participants arrived at the venue in small processions, carrying colourful banners and festoons, as slogans echoed throughout the entire vicinity.
Those attending the rally expressed their optimism that, following the departure of fascism, the government would work with genuine sincerity to implement and safeguard the rights of workers.
