Authorities at Shah Amanat International Airport seized 270 cartons of cigarettes and 15 smartphones from a passenger arriving from Dubai on Saturday.
The seizure was made at around 9:45am during a search of baggage belonging to a passenger of Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight BG148.
Officials recovered 270 cartons of ‘Mond’ brand cigarettes and 15 smartphones, including five iPhones and 10 Google Pixel devices.
The passenger has been identified as Mohammad Hossain Zahed Habib (Passport No A15799208), a resident of the West Farhadabad area in Fatikchhari, Chattogram.
According to Customs sources, the total revenue value of the seized goods amounts to Tk 9.90 lakh, with Tk 5.40 lakh from the cigarettes and Tk 4.50 lakh from the mobile phones.
The drive was a joint operation involving National Security Intelligence (NSI), Customs Intelligence, and the Airport Customs wing. The seized items have been deposited at the Chattogram Customs House under a Departmental Memorandum (DM).
Airport authorities confirmed that the passenger was released after being issued a verbal warning.
