A college student, Anisha Ferdousi (22), reportedly committed suicide by hanging herself at a house in the Hazaribagh area of the capital. She was a third-year student in the Computer Science department at the University of Asia Pacific.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 4:30pm in a rented apartment on the 5th floor of a six-story building in the Tali Office water pump lane in Hazaribagh.
Her father’s name is Jalil Rahman. Her ancestral home is in Agailjhara upazila of Barisal. Her husband’s name is Selim Rana, from Daulatpur upazila in Kushtia.
Amirul Islam, who brought her to the hospital, stated that Anisha is his daughter. However, as Amirul’s sister and brother-in-law had no children, Amirul gave Anisha to them for adoption when she was five months old. Since then, Anisha was raised by Jalil Rahman.
He informed that Anisha lived at Amirul’s house in Hazaribagh, passed her intermediate from City College, and was now studying at the University of Asia Pacific. While studying at City College, she developed a romantic relationship with a youth named Selim and secretly married him.
However, she informed her parents about this 22 days ago when she went to her village home in Barisal. As the family was unwilling to accept it, she became upset. At one point, they accepted it, and today, Saturday, brought Anisha from the village to Amirul’s house in Hazaribagh.
After arriving in Dhaka this morning, Anisha locked her room door in the afternoon and hanged herself by tying her scarf to the ceiling fan. Breaking the door open and finding her, they rescued her and brought her to the hospital, where doctors declared her dead in the evening.
In-charge (Inspector) Md Faruk of the Dhaka Medical Police Camp confirmed the death and stated that the body has been kept in the morgue for autopsy. Hazaribagh Thana police are investigating the incident.
