Md Shah Alam (33), a police member, was injured in a stabbing attack by miscreants at a checkpost in the Kutubkhali area of Jatrabari in the capital. At the time, a bag was recovered from the miscreants, containing five cocktails and a bomb.
The incident occurred on Saturday at the Kutubkhali Pocket Gate in Jatrabari. The injured policeman is receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Sub-Inspector (SI) Md Shahidur Rahman of Jatrabari Police Station reported that they were on mobile duty in the Jatrabari Kutubkhali Pocket Gate area from morning. Four or five police members were on duty there. At that time, four youths were passing in front of the pocket gate carrying two bags.
Suspecting them, Constable Shah Alam moved to search their bags. At that moment, one of them pulled out a knife from his waist and stabbed Shah Alam on the left side of his forehead. As they fled, police members gave chase, and the assailants escaped after detonating a cocktail.
He further informed that one bomb and five cocktails were found inside the bag. These have been handed over to the bomb disposal unit.
The injured Shah Alam was first taken to Rajarbagh Police Lines Hospital. From there, he was brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He is posted in the transport section of Jatrabari Police Station.
On-duty doctors at the Dhaka Medical emergency department stated that the injured policeman has a stab wound on the left side of his forehead. He is receiving treatment in the emergency department. Various tests, including a CT scan of his head, are ongoing.
