Two farmers were killed in separate lightning strikes in Kushtia on Thursday afternoon.
The incidents took place in Kushtia Sadar and Daulatpur upazilas during rain accompanied by thunder and lightning.
The deceased were identified as Rowshan Ali, son of Moslem of Dahakula village under Alamapur Union in Kushtia Sadar, and Arz Ali, 28, son of Abdur Razzak of Narayanpur village under Rifayetpur Union in Daulatpur.
Local residents said lightning strikes began around 1:30pm during rainfall.
At the time, Rowshan Ali was working at Jotpara field in Dahakula village. He died on the spot after being struck by lightning.
In another incident around the same time, Arz Ali was working in the courtyard of his house in Narayanpur village.
He collapsed after being struck by lightning. Family members rescued him and took him to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
