Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen has said the Chinese government and people are eagerly awaiting the China visit of Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
He made the remarks at a dinner hosted at Inter Continental Dhaka on Thursday following BNP’s recent visit to China.
The ambassador said the BNP delegation’s recent China tour generated significant interest among the Chinese people. He also noted that Chinese state media gave the visit considerable importance in their coverage.
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen attended an appreciation dinner hosted by the BNP high-level delegation on Thursday following its recent visit to China.
According to the Chinese Embassy in Dhaka, Ambassador Yao congratulated the delegation on the successful visit. He said the trip further strengthened political mutual trust between the two sides.
He also said China remains ready to work with Bangladesh to carry forward traditional friendship, deepen exchanges on governance experience, promote high-quality development of Belt and Road cooperation, and advance the China–Bangladesh Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership.
The event began with remarks from BNP Secretary General and Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, who expressed gratitude to the Chinese government and people for inviting BNP to China.
He described Bangladesh and China as close friends and recalled the “Look East Policy” introduced by late president Ziaur Rahman, calling him the architect of diplomatic engagement between the two countries.
He also paid tribute to former prime minister Khaleda Zia for her contribution to bilateral relations.
Mirza Fakhrul said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman would continue strengthening ties with the Communist Party of China by following the path shown by his parents.
He also discussed ways to further deepen relations between the two countries in industry, literature, trade, economy and administrative cooperation.
Expressing optimism over future Bangladesh-China relations, the minister said Bangladesh expects China’s continued support in its journey towards becoming an economically sustainable nation.
A 19-member high-level BNP delegation visited China in mid-April at the invitation of the Communist Party of China.
Among those present from the BNP delegation were adviser on public administration to the Prime Minister Md Ismail Jabiullah, BNP Vice-Chairman Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, several members of parliament and senior BNP leaders.
The Chinese delegation included Ambassador Yao Wen, Deputy Chief of Mission Dr Liu Yuyin and other senior officials of the Chinese mission in Dhaka.
