China has officially invited Bangladesh to join its ambitious Global Governance Initiative (GGI), a Beijing-led framework aimed at reshaping the current international governance system to be more equitable and inclusive.
The invitation was extended by Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen during a meeting with Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam in Dhaka on Monday, according to a media release issued by the Chinese Embassy on Wednesday.
The GGI, a flagship initiative announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping, positions itself as a “Chinese solution” to global challenges, with a focus on fostering multilateral cooperation and reforming global governance structures.
During the meeting, both sides engaged in comprehensive discussions on a range of topics, including bilateral relations, regional developments, and international issues of shared concern, the embassy stated.
Ambassador Yao emphasised the steady progress in China-Bangladesh relations, noting that the two nations enjoy “a strong trajectory of development” supported by robust cooperation and enduring friendship.
He reaffirmed China’s commitment to working closely with Bangladesh to further advance the strategic consensus reached by the leadership of both countries.
Welcoming the initiative, Foreign Secretary Siam described the GGI as a “timely and constructive contribution” by President Xi amid growing global uncertainties. He also acknowledged the ongoing progress in Dhaka-Beijing ties and reiterated Bangladesh’s intent to deepen collaboration in multiple sectors for mutual benefit.
