National Citizen Party (NCP) Chief Organizer for the northern region Sarjis Alam has said that the sons and daughters of big political party leaders were not the ones who sacrificed their lives during the July uprising.
He made these remarks at a roadside meeting during a Long March spanning the entire Panchagarh district on Saturday evening at Tetultala in Tetulia upazila of Panchagarh. The march was against various crimes including extortion, land-grabbing, syndicates, and corruption.
Sarjis said, “How many sons and daughters of big political party leaders sacrificed their lives in the July uprising? Count how many sons and daughters of big politicians died. It was ordinary people like you and me, workers, and their children who sacrificed their lives. In between, a few politicians reaped the benefits.”
The NCP leader further stated, “The same scenario is being repeated in every district and upazila, with 5 to 10 extortionists, smugglers, syndicate members, drug dealers, fraudsters, and culprits who are sucking the blood of that upazila.”
NCP leaders and activists from 5 upazilas were present at that time.
Earlier, starting from the Chini Mill ground of Panchagarh Municipality at noon on Saturday, activists from 5 upazilas participated in the Long March with over a thousand motorcycles. A convoy of microbuses and pickups also accompanied the motorcycles.
