Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatradal (JCD), the student wing of BNP, has relieved Abdur Rahim Bhuiyan from the post of general secretary of its Dhaka Metropolitan South branch over specific allegations of violating organisational discipline.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the JCD central parliament said Rakibul Islam Rakib, currently serving as senior joint general secretary of the same committee, has been made acting general secretary with immediate effect.

The decision was approved by JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, according to the release signed by Md Jahangir Alam, office secretary (with rank of vice-president).

The central body said the move was taken to maintain organisational dynamism and continuity. However, the release did not elaborate on the nature of the specific allegations against Bhuiyan.

The Dhaka Metropolitan South unit of JCD has been witnessing internal factional tensions over the past several months. Political observers say the latest decision is likely to bring temporary stability to the embattled unit ahead of upcoming student programmes.
