The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has arrested a female smuggler along with Indian sarees, shrimp fry, mobile phone parts, and 603 bottles of intoxicating syrup valued at over Tk9.16 lakh from various frontier areas in Satkhira.

The arrested woman is Rehena Khatun, 35, wife of Saidur Rahman of Goalpara village in Kalaroa upazila.

According to BGB officials, separate special operations teams conducted raids on Saturday based on secret information at different border points under the Padmashakhra, Kakdanga, Madra, Hijaldi, and Chanduria Border Out Posts (BOPs) in Satkhira Sadar and Kalaroa upazilas.

A team from Padmashakhra BOP seized Indian shrimp fry from Joratal Gachh area in Satkhira Sadar upazila. Another team from Kakdanga BOP recovered Indian sarees from Rajjaker Mor in Kalaroa. Madra BOP personnel seized mobile phone parts from Shmashan Ghat area, while Hijaldi BOP seized Indian mobile phone parts from Barali Aam Bagaan area.

In a separate operation, a team from Chanduria BOP arrested Rehena Khatun along with 603 bottles of Eskuf syrup, an intoxicating Indian medicine, from Goalpara village in Kalaroa.

The total market value of the seized goods is Tk 9,16,200. However, several other smugglers managed to flee the scene upon noticing the presence of the BGB, officials said.

Lt Colonel Kazi Ashikur Rahman, commander of Satkhira 33 BGB Battalion, confirmed the matter. He said the seized Indian goods have been handed over to Satkhira Customs. The confiscated narcotics have been kept in BGB storage following a general diary filed with the Satkhira Department of Narcotics Control. These will be destroyed in public view at a later date, he added.
