Brac University received an email on Sunday threatening multiple bomb attacks on its campus, prompting police and intelligence agencies to launch an investigation.
The email was sent at 6:44pm from an account using the name “Typical Chinese man” and claimed that the attacks would take place at around 11:00am on Tuesday, 6 October.
Addressed to members of the Brac University community, the message threatened a mass bombing at the university’s campus on Pragati Sarani in Dhaka.
Police sources said the university authorities forwarded the email to relevant agencies shortly after receiving it and sought their cooperation as a precaution.
Several intelligence agencies are working to assess the threat, police said.
Attempts to reach Brac University through multiple contact numbers for comment were unsuccessful.
Mohammad Ruhul Kabir Khan, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Gulshan Division, said there was no reason for panic.
“This is not considered a potential threat,” he said.
He added that a general diary had been filed with Badda Police Station and that the Detective Branch’s cyber team was investigating the incident.
