Two candidates have lost their nominations in Chattogram-13 (Karnaphuli) constituency, while seven others have been declared valid.
District Administrator and Returning Officer Mohammad Jahidul Islam Mia conducted the final day of scrutiny for nominations for the 13th National Parliament Election and referendum at 10.30am on Sunday.
The rejected candidates are BNP rebel, now independent contender Md Ali Abbas and Gono Odhikar Parishad nominee Md Mojibor Rahman.
Election officials rejected Ali Abbas’s nomination as he acted as his own proposer and failed to produce documents proving party nomination.
Returning officials also cancelled Md Mojibor Rahman’s nomination after finding him a personal loan defaulter at four banks’ Chattogram branches.
The candidates whose nominations have been declared valid are Mohammad Emran of the Nationalist Democratic Movement, Mahmudul Hasan of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, SM Shahjahan of Bangladesh Islami Front, Mu Rezaul Mostafa of Insaniyat Biplob Bangladesh, Sarwar Jamal Nizam of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, Mohammad Imran of Khelafat Majlis, and Jatiya Party candidate Abdur Rab Chowdhury.
A total of 15 aspirants collected nomination papers in the Karnaphuli constituency, of whom nine submitted nominations. The scrutiny process found seven valid and two invalid.
The two rejected candidates may appeal against the decision within four days starting from 5 January, officials said.
