Popular Bangladeshi actor Chanchal Chowdhury celebrated Argentina’s dramatic victory over Egypt but urged football fans to show respect towards Brazil following its defeat.
A lifelong Argentina supporter, Chanchal has shared his emotions on social media throughout the ongoing World Cup. On Tuesday (July 7), he watched Argentina’s thrilling clash against Egypt at a restaurant in New York alongside Dhallywood actor Amit Hasan and novelist Sadat Hossain.
Argentina suffered an early setback after conceding two goals. Despite the difficult start, supporters continued to believe in the team’s fightback.
Cristian Romero pulled one back with a powerful header in the 79th minute. Lionel Messi then restored parity in the 83rd minute with a close-range finish after missing a first-half penalty.
Deep into stoppage time, Enzo Fernández headed home Lautaro Martínez’s cross to complete a stunning 3-2 comeback victory.
A video that later spread across social media captured Chanchal, Amit Hasan and Sadat Hossain celebrating enthusiastically as Argentina scored their second goal.
After the match, Chanchal shared a message on his Facebook page, urging supporters to respond to defeats with empathy rather than mockery. “People should not celebrate someone else’s defeat like fanatics. They should show sympathy. If they cannot do that, they should at least remain silent or offer comfort.
I truly felt saddened by Brazil’s defeat and did not celebrate it at all,” he wrote.
