Sugarcane crushing season has officially begun at Carew & Company with a target of 80,000 metric tons of sugarcane over a course of 72 working days.
The crushing season was officially inaugurated on Friday a discussion and prayer ceremony at the mill’s Cane Carrier premises.
The event was chaired by Rashidul Hasan, additional secretary of industry ministry and the chief guest was industry adviser Adilur Rahman Khan.
Special guests included DIG of Khulna Range Md Rezaul Haque, Chuadanga District Commissioner Mohammad Kamal Hossain, and Chuadanga District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Monirul Islam.
According to the mill’s authorities, sugarcane has been cultivated on 5,000 hectares of land in the Carew area this year.
Of this, 1,600 acres belong to Carew itself, while the remaining 3,400 acres belong to local farmers. The target for this year’s crushing season is to process 80,000 metric tons of sugarcane over 72 working days, from which 5,500 metric tons of sugar is expected to be produced.
The average sugar recovery rate is projected at 5.5 per cent.
Rabbi Hasan, the company’s manager, conducted the event.
