A general manager at a garment factory in Ashulia, Savar, was allegedly abducted on Thursday evening after refusing to enter into a jhut [fabric scrap] deal. The incident has caused widespread fear among the factory staff and their families.
According to eyewitnesses and the victim’s family, the abduction took place around 6 pm on Thursday in the Jamgora Diakhali area of Ashulia.
Sadhan Kumar Dey, the general manager at Rose Dresses Limited, was heading home in his private car when the incident occurred.
A group of six to seven young men stopped his vehicle on the road, threatened him, and forced him into their car. The assailants drove him around various areas in Ashulia for nearly three hours before dropping him back in front of the factory at around 9 pm.
They warned him that if he did not agree to provide jhut for their business, they would kill him.
The police from Ashulia Thana arrived at the scene after receiving news of the incident and conducted an inspection.
Sadhan Kumar Dey, the abduction victim, confirmed that the attackers targeted him because he refused to provide jhut for their business. He said that both he and his family are currently living in fear.
Local residents mentioned that recently, the garment factory had signed a jhut supply contract with a local supplier named Roni. However, some parties opposed Roni receiving the jhut and pressured the factory to refuse him. Eventually, the factory management decided to sell the jhut independently, without entering into any deals with either party.
Ashulia Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Abdul Hannan confirmed the incident and said that a police team was dispatched to the scene. He assured that action would be taken once a formal complaint is filed.
