The forest officials rescued a Burmese python (Python bivittatus) from a residence in Haldiyapalong of Ukhiya under Cox’s Bazar south forest division and released it into the reserved forest.
It is suspected that the python sought shelter in the house at Klasapara after being washed down by continuous heavy rainfall and flash floods from the hills.
The python, approximately 10 feet in length and weighing an estimated 15 kg, was rescued around 10pm Tuesday.
Haldiyapalong Beat Officer Emdadul Haque Rony confirmed the matter. He said a Forest Department team rushed to the scene after being alerted by locals.
“The python was safely rescued and released into the reserved forest after assessing its physical condition,” he said.
He further noted that heavy rains have led to more wildlife wandering into human settlements from hilly regions.
Ukhiya Range Officer and Assistant Conservator of Forests Mohammad Shahinur Rahman urged residents not to panic or harm such creatures if spotted in residential areas, but instead to inform the Forest Department immediately.
He assured that department members would ensure the animals are safely rescued and returned to their natural habitats.
The official also reiterated the importance of public cooperation in wildlife conservation, advising residents to remain vigilant and refrain from attempting to capture such animals themselves.
