Jasprit Bumrah endured his worst Indian Premier League season in 11 years as Mumbai Indians crashed out of the playoff race. The India fast bowler played 13 matches and managed only four wickets in the ongoing campaign.

Mumbai became the second team to exit the playoff battle. Bumrah’s dip in form played a major role in their poor season. He conceded 8.36 runs per over, far above his career IPL economy rate of 7.33. Batters attacked him regularly and rarely showed the caution usually associated with facing him.

The last time Bumrah finished an IPL season with single-digit wickets came in 2015. He played only four matches that year and took three wickets. This season he featured in 13 games but added only one wicket more than that return.

From 2016 to 2025, Bumrah reached double figures for wickets in every season regardless of Mumbai’s overall results. During that period he claimed 15, 20, 17, 19, 27, 21, 15, 20 and 18 wickets respectively.

Bumrah has now played 158 IPL matches and taken 187 wickets overall. His numbers across the last decade established him as one of the league’s most reliable bowlers. This season moved sharply away from those standards as Mumbai struggled for control with the ball throughout the tournament.

Mumbai’s bowling unit never settled during the campaign. Bumrah’s lack of wickets increased pressure on the rest of the attack, especially during middle overs and at the death. Opponents frequently targeted him instead of seeing him as a threat to survive.
