The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast that rain and thundershowers are likely to prevail across most parts of the country for the next five days, including on the day of Eid-ul-Adha.

According to meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir, the trend of gusty winds and lightning is expected to continue.

Heavy rainfall is particularly anticipated in four divisions, which is likely to result in a 1 to 2 degrees Celsius drop in daytime temperatures nationwide starting from Wednesday.

For the 24 hours starting Monday, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally winds are expected in many places across Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

Similar weather is likely in some parts of Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, and at one or two locations in Khulna and Barishal divisions.

Despite the rain forecast, a mild heatwave is currently sweeping over the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, and Patuakhali, as well as the entire Khulna division.

This heatwave may persist for the time being, while day and night temperatures across the country are expected to remain largely unchanged during this initial period.

From 9am on Tuesday (26 May), rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue in many areas of Rangpur, Mymensingh, and Sylhet, with moderately heavy to heavy falls in some places. While daytime temperatures will remain steady, night temperatures may see a slight decrease.

On Wednesday (27 May), the rain is expected to expand, covering many areas of the Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions, and some parts of Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram.

During this period, daytime temperatures are forecast to fall by 1 to 2 degrees Celsius, providing much-needed relief.

The BMD predicts that the pattern of rain and thundershowers will persist through Thursday (28 May) and Friday (29 May) across most divisions.

Heavy rainfall remains a possibility in several regions, with daytime temperatures expected to continue a slight downward trend. The weather office also noted that the tendency for rainfall may continue even after the initial five-day period.
