Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the national budget is being prepared keeping every citizen of Bangladesh in focus.

He made the remarks on Wednesday after a meeting with the Prime Minister at the Secretariat.

Earlier on Tuesday, he said that low-income people were the most deprived in previous budgets.

He said the budget has prioritised poor and low-income groups, along with homemakers, from the outset.

He also said a “creative economy” programme has been introduced to include blacksmiths, potters, weavers, small artisans, theatre workers and cultural workers in economic activities.

Khosru added that the initiative will provide skills development, credit support, design assistance, branding and marketing facilities.

The Finance Minister said GDP does not come only from industries. He said culture, sports and the creative sector can also make a significant contribution to the economy.
