BRAC has announced a comprehensive five-year strategic roadmap aimed at creating 10 lakh employment opportunities and assisting 19 lakh students in overcoming learning deficiencies.
This major initiative was highlighted during the publication of the organisation’s Annual Report 2025 at an event held on Monday, at the BRAC Centre in Mohakhali.
During the event, BRAC’s Executive Director Asif Saleh presented the findings of the report, noting that in 2025 alone, the organisation reached approximately 2.6 crore people, which accounts for one in every seven people in Bangladesh.
Among those served were 1.9 crore women and more than 2.23 lakh persons with disabilities.
It was noted that two out of every three individuals directly engaged by BRAC were women, receiving support across various sectors including health, education, financial inclusion, and climate change resilience.
Economic and social milestones
Over the past five years, BRAC has distributed assets worth approximately Tk 1,000 crore to alleviate poverty, enabling 3.12 lakh families to graduate from extreme poverty.
The organisation’s microfinance programme also saw significant growth, with the total loan assistance increasing from Tk 29,000 crore to Tk 48.5 thousand crore.
In the health sector, BRAC facilitated 21 lakh safe deliveries and brought 10 lakh tuberculosis patients under treatment, while identifying 35 lakh individuals with non-communicable diseases or vision impairments.
Social empowerment remains a core focus, with 6.44 lakh students completing education programmes, 56 per cent of whom were girls. Additionally, BRAC provided safe water and sanitation facilities to 8.08 lakh students across 1,740 schools.
The report also highlighted the documentation of 98,600 cases of violence against women and children, with participants directly preventing 2,237 child marriages in 2025.
Future strategies and climate resilience
In its upcoming five-year plan, BRAC will prioritise inclusive development, youth employment, and climate resilience. Key targets include bringing 2 crore people under financial services with an annual loan disbursement goal of Tk1.5 lakh crore.
The organisation plans to establish 200 new financial service centres in remote areas such as chars, haors, and the Chittagong Hill Tracts, while expanding its urban poverty graduation programmes to 30 districts.
Addressing the climate crisis, BRAC has become the first private development organisation in Bangladesh to publish an International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) S1 and S2 Disclosure report.
The organisation is implementing diverse solutions, including solar power installations at 32 establishments to meet 55 per cent of their electricity demand.
Furthermore, a recycling centre in Cox’s Bazar is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 1,272 tCO2e annually, while nature-based solutions aim to sequester 2,700 tCO2e of carbon each year.
The publication event was attended by senior officials, including Asif Saleh, Executive Director; KAM Morshed, senior director (Advocacy, Communications and Engagement); and AFM Shahidur Rahman, director (Legal, Risk Management, Safeguarding and Social Compliance).
