Teachers of Barishal University have declared a complete campus shutdown demanding promotions.
All classes and exams have remained suspended since Monday morning. Several teachers also announced resignations from administrative duties, while officers and staff expressed solidarity.
During a sit‑in at the administrative building, teachers urged offices to halt activities. At one point, they locked the registrar’s office and other departments.
Protesting teachers said a tripartite meeting on 30 April between the VC, the Barishal divisional commissioner, and teacher representatives had yielded a positive decision. But the syndicate meeting last Saturday failed to resolve the issue.
In protest, teachers declared the shutdown, announced the VC unwelcome, and decided to resign from administrative duties.
The movement began on 21 April with work abstention, followed by shutdown, and on 28 April escalated into a full non‑cooperation programme, paralysing the university.
Vice‑Chancellor Prof Mohammad Toufiq Alam said the syndicate meeting was positive, yet teachers called for protest. He urged dialogue and continuation of classes and exams.
