BNP has called an urgent meeting with top leaders of its alliance partners this evening, responding to an ultimatum over seat sharing amid rising dissatisfaction within the coalition.
The meeting is scheduled for 7pm on Thursday at the BNP Chairperson’s office in Gulshan.
Fifteen senior leaders from allied parties have been invited, including representatives of the five-party Gonotantra Moncho, the 12-party alliance, Ganadhikar Parishad, the Nationalist Like-minded Alliance and Gono Forum.
Fariduzzaman Farhad, chief coordinator of the Nationalist Like-minded Alliance and chairman of the National People’s Party NPP, confirmed the development to TIMES of Bangladesh.
The move comes after 29 allied parties held a long meeting at the Nagorik Oikya office in Paltan on Wednesday evening, where they gave BNP a 48-hour deadline to settle seat distribution on what they described as fair terms.
They warned that if BNP failed to respond within the timeframe, they would announce the formation of a new alliance.
In this backdrop, BNP has arranged tonight’s meeting to address the growing tensions inside the coalition.
