Two people, including the brother and nephew of BNP Basan Thana unit President Tanvir Siraj, were arrested with locally made weapons and hemp from Naojore area of Gazipur early Thursday.
The detained have been identified as Taslim Siraj, 54, son of Haji Sirazul Islam, and his 27-year-old son Md Mushfiq.
The operation was carried out by a joint force organised by the Gazipur Army Camp, and the duo was later handed over to Basan Police Station.
Police and local sources said the raid was conducted from 2:45am to 4:45 am following a tip-off. Authorities recovered eight large knives, 19 small knives, five large machetes, five small machetes, two iron sickles, five crowbars, one straight crowbar, 27 imitation diamonds, and a quantity of hemp.
Basan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Shahin Khan confirmed the arrests and said legal proceedings are underway against the two.
