Eastern University has expressed its profound sorrow at the passing of Md Iftekhar Mahmud, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law. He passed away on Thursday, 30 October 2025, following a prolonged illness caused by brain cancer (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un).
The university extended its condolences to his bereaved family, with the message.
Md Iftekhar Mahmud, who began his esteemed career at Eastern University in 2005, served the institution with dedication for nearly two decades. Over the years, he took on various academic and administrative roles, most notably as the In-Charge of the Center for Social Innovation and Outreach (CSIO).
He was an alumnus of the University of Rajshahi, where he completed his LLB in 2003 and LL.M in 2004. His academic interests included Legal Education, Constitutional Law of Bangladesh, Governance, and International Organizational Law.
Known for his thoughtful teaching and commitment to ethical learning, Professor Mahmud was deeply respected by his students and colleagues.
He also made significant contributions to the field of legal education, authoring several scholarly publications, including Answerability of International Organizations (ELCOP Journal of Human Rights, 2023), Legal Education in the Time of Covid-19 and the 4th Industrial Revolution (BILIA, 2022), and Dhaka’s Motorcycle Ride Typifies International Organizations’ Escape from Responsibility (Lex & Juris Publication, Nepal, 2021).
His Namaz-e-Janaza was held on the same day, 30 October 2025, at Masjid ut Taqwa, Dhanmondi.
The Eastern University family expressed its deepest condolences to his family, praying for the departed soul’s eternal peace and strength for his loved ones during this difficult time.
