Salahuddin Ahmed, a senior member of BNP’s Standing Committee, has reported an annual income of Tk 6,21,83,627 for the fiscal year 2024-25, with the bulk of the income originating from the sale of land.

The details were disclosed in the asset affidavit submitted to the Election Commission as part of his nomination for the upcoming parliamentary elections for Cox’s Bazar-1 (Chakaria-Pekua) seat.

According to the affidavit, Salahuddin Ahmed reported an annual income of Tk 6,21,83,627 for the 2025-26 fiscal year. His annual expenditure for the same period was Tk 36,68,559.

Salahuddin’s income sources include Tk 6,00,000 from agriculture, Tk 3,20,000 from rental income of immovable property, Tk 5,65,000 from Pekua Livestock Fisheries Farm, Tk 11,326 from bank deposits, Tk 26,40,000 as a company director’s honorarium, and Tk 5,80,27,311 from land sales and other capital income.

In his immovable property details, Salahuddin Ahmed reported having Tk 1,35,52,067 in cash, while his wife, former MP Hasina Ahmed, holds Tk 6,79,127 in cash.

Salahuddin also has Tk 39,49,992 deposited in banks and financial institutions, with an additional Tk 26,05,435 in his wife’s name. He holds shares in a non-listed company, with an investment valued at Tk 19,00,000.

Additionally, Hasina Ahmed owns shares in listed companies, with a total acquisition cost of Tk 2,58,59,137, which is currently valued at Tk 1,10,25,000 in the market. The shares in the non-listed company are currently worth Tk 99,95,000.

Regarding vehicles, Salahuddin owns a sedan and two jeeps valued at around Tk 57,00,000. His wife owns a sedan and a jeep, valued at around Tk 65,00,000.

The affidavit also mentions that Salahuddin received 12.3 vories of gold as a gift, valued at Tk 80,000. His wife owns 24.8 vories of gold, with its value marked as ‘unknown’.

Additionally, Salahuddin has three firearms registered in his name, valued at Tk 1,50,000.

In terms of immovable assets, the affidavit lists 24.36 acres of agricultural land, 9.43 acres of non-agricultural land, a three-story residence on 12,208 square feet of land in Pekua, a six-story building on 18,150 square feet of land in Kalatali, Cox’s Bazar, and a flat of 4,019 square feet in Gulshan, Dhaka.

The affidavit also shows that Salahuddin Ahmed has personal and institutional liabilities amounting to Tk 4,15,00,000, and he has lent Tk 7,54,00,000 to others.

Salahuddin Ahmed was elected as a Member of Parliament from Cox’s Bazar-1 in the 6th and 7th general elections in 1996, and the 8th general election in 2001. He served as the State Minister for Communications during the Four-Party Alliance government from 2001 to 2006.

In the 2008 parliamentary elections, his wife, Hasina Ahmed, was elected as an MP under the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol.
