The Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee has issued a show-cause notice to BNP candidate Faruk Alam Sarker  for Gaibandha-5 (Saghata-Fulchhari) constituency, over allegations of violating the electoral code of conduct.

The notice, signed by Tanzir Hossain, chairman of the Election Inquiry and Judicial Committee, was confirmed on Wednesday afternoon from the office of Saghata Upazila Nirbahi officer.

The action follows a complaint lodged by independent candidate Nahiduzzaman Nishad.

According to the notice, around 8pm on 10 February, Ataur Rahman Sarker – Jatiya Party’s central vice chairman and Gaibandha Zila Parishad’s former chairman – joined BNP alongside his activists in Ghuridaha Union.

The complaint alleges that during the event, votes were solicited for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol. The joining ceremony was broadcast live on Facebook as part of the election campaign.

Based on these allegations, the committee directed the BNP candidate to submit a written explanation by 4:30pm on Wednesday.

The committee Chairman Tanzir Hossain confirmed the notice was issued based on specific allegations.
