The visiting Prime Minister of Bhutan, Dasho Tshering Tobgay, paid a courtesy call on President Mohammed Shahabuddin at Bangabhaban on Sunday.
The Bhutanese prime minister arrived at Bangabhaban this afternoon as part of his three-day state visit to Dhaka, where he was welcomed by the head of state. The duo later held an official meeting at the Credential Hall of Bangabhaban.
President Shahabuddin highlighted the “profound friendly relations” between Bangladesh and Bhutan and expressed his confidence that the bilateral ties would be further deepened in the future.
He also voiced his hope that the relationship between the two nations would be strengthened in sectors including trade, hydropower, education, and health in the days ahead.
During the meeting, the Bhutanese prime minister thanked Bangladesh for increasing seats for Bhutanese students in its medical colleges and for reserving seats in engineering universities. He highly praised the overall development and progress of Bangladesh.
The Bhutanese prime minister expressed his hope that the bilateral ties between the two countries would be further enhanced in the future.
Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Saturday morning, commencing his three-day visit.
Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus received him warmly at the airport. Following a brief meeting between the two leaders, a smart contingent of the armed forces presented a Guard of Honour to the Bhutanese Prime Minister.
After the airport ceremonies, the prime minister of Bhutan visited the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar to pay homage to the martyrs of the Liberation War.
There, Tshering Tobgay planted a tree sapling on the memorial grounds and signed the visitors’ book. Following Sunday’s meeting, the visiting prime minister also signed the ‘Visitors’ Book’ of Bangabhaban.
The visiting Bhutanese prime minister’s entourage included Foreign Minister and External Affairs DN Dhungyel, Minister for Industry, Commerce and Employment Lyonpo Namgyal Dorjee, and Bhutan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee, among others.
Also present on the Bangladeshi side were the interim government’s Adviser for Commerce Sheikh Bashir Uddin, Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, Secretary to the President’s Office Khan Mohammad Nurul Amin, and Bangabhaban’s Military Secretary Major General Adil Chowdhury, along with other senior military and civilian officials.
