Bangladesh football is enjoying a renewed surge of interest, with supporters showing greater enthusiasm than in recent years. Yet the sport still lacks a dedicated football stadium – an issue frequently raised by BFF president Tabith Awal, particularly given the poor condition of many domestic league venues.
The National Sports Council (NSC) has now moved to address the problem by initiating plans to build a separate football stadium.
According to a statement published on the Facebook page of Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud, the NSC has proposed the construction of a purpose-built stadium in Purbachal. To ease the pressure on the existing National Stadium, the council has requested 100 acres of land from RAJUK for the project.
Speaking on 24 November at the final of the National Football Championship in Kamalapur, Mahbubul Alam, Secretary of the Ministry of Youth and Sports, said:
“A separate stadium for football is certainly necessary. We are planning in Purbachal. This is part of our long-term plan. Such a process takes around two to three years.”
