He made the remarks on Friday afternoon after visiting Bhasani Hall in Tangail city and responding to questions from journalists.

“The hall is a highly significant heritage institution for Tangail. It was established by Maulana Bhasani, whose contributions to Bangladesh’s political and historical landscape are undeniable. Preserving and maintaining this memorial is a responsibility for all of us,” the minister said.

He noted that Tangail was once called the country’s cultural city, and it is unfortunate that such an important auditorium had long been neglected. Renovation efforts have already begun, and necessary measures will be implemented as soon as possible.

Tuku added that Bhasani Hall was a hub for education, literature, and cultural activities in Tangail, hosting regular plays, musical performances, discussion forums, and other cultural events, which helped the city gain national recognition as a cultural centre.

Due to prolonged neglect, the building’s structural condition had deteriorated, and cultural activities had nearly ceased. The government is taking initiatives to restore Tangail’s cultural heritage and engage the younger generation in cultural pursuits.

The minister criticised the previous Awami League government for leaving the historic building effectively abandoned, which caused damage to various parts of the structure and halted its activities. He said effective steps would be taken to revitalise the heritage site and restore Tangail’s cultural legacy.

Present at the visit were local administrative and political leaders, including Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, Sanjay Kumar Mahanta, Hasanuzzamil Shaheen, Mahmudul Haq Sanu, and Shahin Mia.
