The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and Bangladesh Brand Forum (BBF) signed a memorandum of understanding on Thursday to reposition the country’s apparel sector from a manufacturing hub to an innovation-driven industry by 2030.
The agreement was signed at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara under the initiative titled “From Factory Nation to Innovation Nation – Reimagining Bangladesh Apparel 2030.”
BGMEA Vice-President (Finance) Mizanur Rahman and Bangladesh Brand Forum Founder and Managing Director Shariful Islam signed the MoU on behalf of their organisations.
BGMEA Director Shah Raiid Chowdhury, Branding Standing Committee Chairman Khan Monirul Alam Shuvo, Publicity and Publication Standing Committee Chairman Masud Kabir and Trade Fair and Events Standing Committee Chairman M Sazedul Karim were present.
Under the agreement, the two organisations will jointly develop global branding and communication strategies to reposition Bangladesh’s apparel industry beyond its traditional image as a large-scale manufacturing base.
The collaboration will include establishing an innovation lab at BGMEA to engage young innovators in addressing industry challenges through technological and creative solutions.
The initiative will also focus on building leadership capacity in the sector through a leadership academy for mid- and senior-level professionals, with a focus on promoting women’s leadership.
To attract young talent, the partners plan to organise youth festivals, campus ambassador programmes and national competitions for students and emerging innovators.
The partnership will also highlight Bangladesh’s environmentally friendly garment factories through knowledge reports and case studies to support sustainability goals.
The initiative aims to connect Bangladesh’s green garment factories with Japanese brands and collaborate with designers from both countries to develop a sustainable global fashion brand.
BGMEA’s presence will also be promoted at international platforms including the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity to showcase Bangladesh as a modern and environmentally responsible apparel hub.
Under the partnership, BBF will provide strategic branding guidance and knowledge support, while BGMEA will facilitate industry insights and participation from member factories.
Both organisations expect the two-year collaboration to strengthen the confidence of foreign buyers and investors and position Bangladesh as an innovation-driven apparel hub by 2030.
