Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) said it thwarted 10 separate alleged attempts by India’s Border Security Force (BSF) to push people into Bangladesh through different border points over the past 24 hours.
In a statement on Thursday, the border force said it had strengthened intelligence surveillance and patrol activities along frontier areas to prevent possible push-in attempts and ensure border security.
At Jadabpur border under the Maheshpur Battalion (58 BGB) in Jhenaidah, a BGB patrol stopped four to five people from entering Bangladesh illegally. Facing resistance from BGB personnel, they returned to Indian territory.
In another incident under the Samanta BOP area in Maheshpur, BGB said a BSF prison van carrying around 30 to 35 people approached a border gate. BGB personnel, with support from local residents, resisted the move. The BSF later took the group away from the area.
At Goga and Rudrapur border points in Jashore under the Khulna Battalion (21 BGB), BGB personnel noticed several men and women gathered near the border. According to BGB, preventive measures forced the BSF to remove them from the area.
The Joypurhat Battalion (20 BGB) received information that around 10 people had gathered on the Indian side opposite Koya and Basudebpur border areas in preparation for a push-in. BGB said its immediate preventive measures and enhanced intelligence monitoring prevented the attempt.
BGB also received intelligence and social media reports that four Muslim citizens, whose names had reportedly been excluded from India’s SIR list, were being kept at three holding centres near BSF camps opposite the Chapainawabganj border under the Chapainawabganj Battalion (53 BGB). The force said it had intensified surveillance in the area.
At Haripur border in Thakurgaon under the Thakurgaon Battalion (50 BGB), BGB received information that a BSF patrol from Kakarmoni Camp had detained two Bangladeshi nationals. BGB said the BSF had not yet made any formal communication regarding the matter.
At Rowshanpur border in Panchagarh under the Panchagarh Battalion (18 BGB), local residents detained a person allegedly pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF and informed BGB. The force later sent the individual back to India after taking necessary measures.
BGB said it had also received information that Indian police had handed over 22 detainees from a holding centre in Chandan Park under English Bazar Police Station in Malda district to the BSF for a possible push-in through the Sonamasjid border in Chapainawabganj. Surveillance has been intensified in the area.
At Utmachhara border in Sylhet under the Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB), local residents detained two suspected individuals and handed them over to BGB. After verification, BGB identified them as Indian nationals and sent them back through due process.
The force also received information that 15 to 20 people had been gathered at a government primary school in Assam’s Mahadev police station area opposite the Kochugra border in Netrokona under the Netrokona Battalion (31 BGB). BGB said it remained on maximum alert as a section of the border lacks barbed-wire fencing due to natural causes, creating a potential route for push-ins.
BGB said it would not allow any individual or group to enter Bangladesh illegally through the border. It reiterated that any push-in attempt that violates international border management norms, existing laws and bilateral understandings would face strict resistance.
The border force said it had strengthened intelligence gathering, patrols and operational activities along the frontier and remained fully prepared to safeguard the country’s sovereignty and border security.
