Border Guard Bangladesh has seized two illegal foreign one-shooter guns and nine rounds of ammunition at the Azmatpur border in Shibganj upazila.
BGB officials said the weapons came from India.
Mahananda Battalion 59 BGB briefed reporters at its headquarters on Friday afternoon. The force said a patrol team from Azmatpur BOP conducted the operation at 9:30pm on Thursday based on intelligence information.
The patrol recovered the unclaimed weapons from a mango orchard at Unish Bighi village under Shahbazpur Union. BGB said security has been tightened along the border ahead of the upcoming national election.
The seized firearms and ammunition are now being processed for handover to Shibganj Police Station.
Lt Colonel Golam Kibria, Commanding Officer of the Mahananda Battalion, said BGB will continue special operations along the border to curb arms smuggling.
