Bangladesh Bank has directed that all banks and financial institutions across the country to remain closed from 25 May to 31 May for the Eid-ul-Azha holiday, with limited operational exemptions for essential and export-related services.
Banks and financial institutions have been further directed to keep operations open on Saturday, 23 May and Sunday, 24 May ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha holidays.
The central bank has allowed limited banking operations in key industrial zones, including Dhaka, Ashulia, Tongi, Gazipur, Savar, Narayanganj, Bhaluka and Chattogram, on 25 and 26 May.
According to the central bank, the arrangement is intended to ensure the payment of wages and bonuses. It will also facilitate export-import activities, particularly in the garment sector.
These branches will operate from 10 am to 3 pm, with customer transaction hours from 10am to 1pm.
Banks operating in ports and customs will also continue limited services throughout the holiday period, except on the Eid day.
Authorities have been instructed to ensure adequate security and coordination with local administrations and customs bodies.
The circulars were directed to managing directors and CEOs of all banks and finance companies.
