Legendary singer Sabina Yasmin has left Bangladesh for the United Kingdom, where she is scheduled to perform at two concerts in London and Scotland this month.
The singer departed Dhaka at 7:40am on 4 October. She will perform in London on 11 October and in Scotland on 15 October.
Sabina is travelling with tabla player Chandan Dutta, lead guitarist Monowar Hossain Tutul and keyboardist Partha Pratik Boxi.
Her London performance will be part of the 17th London Bengali Book Fair and Literary-Cultural Festival, which begins on 10 October at The Brady Arts and Community Centre on Hanbury Street. Sabina will perform on the second day of the festival.
She also performed at the festival for the first time last year. “This festival is one of the major annual events for Bengali expatriates and culture lovers living in the UK. It aims to introduce younger generations to the Bengali language, literature and cultural heritage and keep them connected to their roots,” Sabina said.
She will then travel to Scotland for another show on 15 October and plans to return to Bangladesh on 18 October.
According to Chandan Dutta, Sabina will also perform at a ticketed event at the Mayor’s Venue in East London on 11 October.
Meanwhile, singer Ferdous Wahid is also travelling to London on 7 October to perform at RTV’s reality show ‘Little Star’. He is expected to return home on 14 October.
Born on 4 September 1954, Sabina Yasmin grew up in a musical family and began practising music from an early age. Over a career spanning decades, she has made her mark in modern, folk, patriotic and film music.
Her contribution to Bangladeshi cinema is particularly significant. With her clear diction, controlled vocals and restrained emotional style, she has given memorable interpretations to songs ranging from romance and heartbreak to joy, sorrow and patriotism.
