For singer Zinia Zafrin Luipa, Runa Laila’s praise carries a special weight. Their association began years ago and continues to inspire the younger singer’s musical choices.
Luipa recently recalled missing a call from the legendary singer after releasing Begum Akhtar’s ‘Jochhona Koreche Ari’. She later returned the call after seeing Runa’s message and was delighted by her appreciation.
Their connection dates back to Luipa’s participation in ‘Channel i Shera Kontho’ in 2010, where she performed a song from ‘Devdas’. She later recorded ‘Ei Dekha Shesh Dekha’, composed by Runa Laila, and received further praise for ‘Churi Cham Cham’ last year.
Luipa now hopes to release another song around Runa’s birthday on 17 November. Currently touring the US with her band, Luipa N Wings, she plans to return home in the final week of November.
“I have three or four new songs ready. I will release one, and I am trying to time it around Runa ma’am’s birthday,” she said.
Luipa’s latest release, ‘Projapoti’, features her daughter Payra and reflects her desire to preserve a precious part of her childhood through music.
She continues to perform with her own band, while also exploring playback singing and Nazrul Sangeet. Although she once acted in television dramas, Luipa says music now remains her sole focus.
