A tourist died on Tuesday after her scarf became entangled in the wheel of an easy-bike at Cox’s Bazar sea beach.

The deceased was identified as Sima Akter, 18, a second-year Alim student at Fatema Tuz Zohra Mahila Madrasa in Debidwar, Cumilla. She had travelled to Cox’s Bazar with her relatives.

The incident took place around 11:30am on a road in the Sugandha area of the sea beach.

Mahbub Alam, a district administration staff member deployed at the beach, said Sima’s scarf got caught in the wheel while she was travelling in the easy-bike, leaving her critically injured.

She was taken to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

Cox’s Bazar Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali confirmed that her body was kept at the hospital morgue.

Legal proceedings are underway after discussions with her relatives.

Following the incident, authorities advised tourists to take safety precautions when travelling in easy-bikes and remain cautious when wearing scarves.
