CSBIB weighs charter changes at 79th meeting

The Central Shariah Board for Islamic Banks of Bangladesh (CSBIB) discussed and took decisions on policy and strategic issues, including proposed amendments to its constitution and Memorandum of Association, at its 79th Executive Committee meeting in Dhaka on Thursday.

The meeting was held at the head office of Sammilito Islami Bank PLC on 1 October, with Executive Committee Chairman and Shahjalal Islami Bank PLC Managing Director and CEO Mosleh Uddin Ahmed presiding, CSBIB said in a press release.

CSBIB Board Chairman Mohammad Gias Uddin Talukder and Vice-Chairman Anwar Hosain Molla attended the meeting.

Other participants included Sammilito Islami Bank Managing Director Md Abedur Rahman Sikder, Al-Arafah Islami Bank PLC Managing Director Mohd Rafat Ullah Khan, Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC Managing Director (current charge) M Kamal Uddin Jasim and Southeast Bank PLC Managing Director and CEO Md Khalid Mahmood Khan.

Standard Islami Bank PLC Managing Director and CEO Riad Mahmud Chowdhury, Mercantile Bank PLC Managing Director Mati Ul Hasan and NCC Bank PLC Managing Director M Shamsul Arefin also attended.

Pubali Bank PLC Deputy Managing Director and Managing Director (current charge) Mohammad Anisuzzaman, Jamuna Bank PLC Deputy Managing Director Md Shahidul Islam, Trust Bank PLC Deputy Managing Director Md Kamal Hossain Sarker and Syed Murtaza Hassan of Prime Bank PLC were also present.

Mufti Mohammad Muhibbullahil Baqee An-Nadwi, member secretary of the committee and acting secretary general of CSBIB, conducted the meeting.

Bangladesh Bank’s Islami Banking Regulations and Policy Department Director Mohammad Anisur Rahman and Additional Director Mohammad Zakir Hossain attended as special invitees.

The meeting considered a range of policy and strategic matters concerning the Central Shariah Board and took what the release described as important decisions, including on amendments to the organisation’s constitution and Memorandum of Association.
