BRAC Bank, Population Crisis Control and Mass Education Committee (PCC & MEC) and AgriPulse have signed a strategic partnership in Dhaka to expand climate-adaptive agricultural financing and promote sustainable finance practices among farmers and other beneficiaries in Bangladesh.
Syed Abdul Momen, additional managing director and head of SME Banking at BRAC Bank, Mirza Shamim Reza, executive director of PCC & MEC, and Mohammad Ishrat Ullah, founder and owner of AgriPulse, signed the agreement on behalf of their respective organisations, BRAC Bank said in a press release on Saturday.
Under the partnership, BRAC Bank will provide financing solutions for climate-adaptive agricultural activities and promote sustainable finance practices among beneficiaries.
PCC & MEC will act as an intermediary between farmers and the financing process, supporting beneficiary outreach, coordination and implementation.
AgriPulse will provide technology-based technical support, including data management and monitoring, for the financing process.
The three organisations aim to improve farmers’ access to formal financial services, encourage sustainable agricultural practices and strengthen resilience to climate-related challenges.
The partnership combines BRAC Bank’s financial expertise, PCC & MEC’s intermediary role and AgriPulse’s technology capabilities to develop what the organisations described as a more efficient and sustainable agricultural financing ecosystem.
“Affordable financing is essential to advancing the agricultural sector in Bangladesh, but it must also become more climate-adaptive and sustainable,” Momen said.
“Our partnership with PCC & MEC and AgriPulse reflects our commitment to that goal, while setting a new benchmark for technology-enabled digital lending in sustainable agriculture.”
He said the partnership was expected to widen access to agricultural finance, strengthen climate resilience and contribute to safeguarding the country’s long-term food security.
Mohammad Jakirul Islam, head of SME Strategy, Innovation & New Business at BRAC Bank, and Tapos Kumar Roy, head of MFI and Agriculture Finance, were among senior officials from the three organisations who attended the signing.
BRAC Bank, established in 2001 with a focus on small and medium enterprises, operates 312 branches and sub-branches, 330 ATMs, 446 SME Unit Offices and 1,119 Agent Banking Outlets, according to the release.
The bank employs more than 10,000 people and serves more than two million customers across SME, corporate and retail banking. It said it has become the country’s largest collateral-free SME financier over its 25 years of operations and described itself as a benchmark for governance, transparency and compliance in the banking sector.
