Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus has conveyed heartfelt condolences to Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake following the heavy loss of life and extensive damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah, one of the most severe weather disasters to strike the country in recent years.
In a message sent on Friday, Yunus wrote, “I am deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of lives and the widespread devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, which has brought one of the worst weather-related catastrophes Sri Lanka has endured in recent years.”
The Chief Adviser’s Press Wing released the message on Saturday.
Expressing Bangladesh’s solidarity with Sri Lanka, he said, “On behalf of the people and the Government of Bangladesh, and also on my own behalf, I offer our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and to the people of Sri Lanka. Our thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones and those suffering from the impact of this disaster. We wish a swift recovery for all who have been injured.”
Yunus added that Bangladesh stands beside Sri Lanka during this difficult time and remains prepared to provide whatever assistance may be needed including cooperation in flood management, rescue efforts, medical aid and other humanitarian support.
“Please accept, Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration,” the message concluded.
