Bangladesh suffered another heavy defeat to India, this time in the Asian Games semi-final, after their Asia Cup campaign had also ended against the same opponents. Nigar Sultana Joty’s side went down by 114 runs at Korogi Sports Park in Japan on Sunday, missing out on a place in the final.
Shafali Verma’s blistering century helped India post 195/4 before Bangladesh were bowled out for just 81 in 15.4 overs.
India will face Sri Lanka in the final, while Bangladesh will take on Pakistan in the bronze-medal match on Monday.
Chasing 196, Bangladesh lost both openers for just nine runs. Juwairiya was dismissed for a golden duck by Nandani Sharma, while Sobhana Mostary fell to Kranti Goud.
Captain Joty made nine off nine balls before departing, while promoted batter Sorna Akter also failed to reach double figures. Dilara Akter top-scored with 27, but Bangladesh lost their final five wickets for just 32 runs after reaching 49.
Nandani and Deepti Sharma took three wickets each for India, while Shree Charani claimed two.
Earlier, India made a flying start after opting to bat, racing to 72 in the powerplay through Smriti Mandhana and Shafali. Nahida Akter broke the opening stand by dismissing Mandhana for 37 with the final ball of the powerplay.
G Kamalini fell for three to Sanjida Akter Meghla at 85, but Shafali then took control. She added 94 with Harmanpreet Kaur, who made 40 before Rabeya Khan dismissed her at 179.
Richa Ghosh fell for two in the following over to Marufa Akter, leaving Shafali needing two runs from the final over for her century.
She reached 99 with a single off the fourth ball before smashing her ninth six off the final delivery to complete a 49-ball hundred.
