Pakistan High Commissioner Imran Haider met Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain in Dhaka on 28 September to discuss cooperation in the health sector, including a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU), pharmaceuticals and capacity building of health professionals.
The meeting also covered collaboration in organ transplantation between Bangladesh’s health sector and Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI&RC) and Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), according to a press release issued by the Pakistan High Commission in Dhaka.
Haider informed the minister that GIMS had offered to train Bangladeshi doctors in liver transplantation, assist them in subsequent surgeries in Bangladesh and provide post-procedure care through telemedicine.
The two sides also discussed expanding trade in surgical equipment and pharmaceutical products. Sakhawat said Bangladesh could increase exports of vaccines and cancer medicines to Pakistan and invited Pakistani entrepreneurs to explore investment opportunities in Bangladesh’s health sector, the press release said.
